HOTEL AM DOM

Green corner

Hamburg’s world-famous entertainment district will soon be home to the Hotel am Dom, or Hotel by the fairground, one of the first Premier Inn’s in Germany. The subversive character of Sankt Pauli is reflected in the design of the building. The convergence of two main streets are treated as end walls of a block form a backdrop to a black steel staircase reminiscent of an New York fire escape, in reality it is a balcony for all the guests and an exciting way to leave the lift lobby and end up in the reception and Bar. This prominent façade will be the backdrop for a green wall which over years will rise to cover the whole 20 meters height.

Multicoloured ceramic tiles are used for the ground floor façade to protect against unwanted graffiti and with patterns and tones which resembling the 1950’s shopfronts of which many are still to be found in the neighbourhood.

A building and design that is reflecting the subversive character of Sankt Pauli.

The red-brick building of the brewery influenced the interior style: Rough walls and leather couches invite you to take your time or have lunch on beer garden sets and barrels – having a good basis for the next two drinks. It is a collaboration and celebration of Belgium art and Belgium beer, which comes together here in the capital of Europe.
